Benton paving along the LA-3 corridor

Benton is the seat of Bossier Parish, yet the 2020 census counted only 2,048 residents inside town limits. The town is named for Thomas Hart Benton, the nineteenth-century senator from Missouri. Most traffic arrives on LA-3, the state highway known locally as Benton Road. After its interchange with I-220 it runs about seven miles north beside the Union Pacific tracks, comes into town as a four-lane road, and narrows to two lanes on the way out to the north.

Away from the highway, the Benton area mixes in-town streets lined with older homes, newer subdivisions on the land between Benton and Bossier City, and rural tracts with longer drives. At least one builder has pointed to the town's growth as the reason for opening a subdivision here. That variety means a Benton paving quote could cover a short town driveway due for resurfacing, a brand-new drive in a recent development, or a long gravel run on acreage.

What Benton driveways and lots usually need

  • Aging in-town driveways. When the base is firm, resurfacing or targeted asphalt repair can extend its life without a full tear-out.
  • Gravel drives on larger lots. Converting gravel to asphalt starts with finding out how much sound stone is left in the old track.
  • Surfaces fading from black to gray. Sealcoating after crack filling helps keep water and sunlight out of the mat.
  • Lots near the courthouse, churches and schools. Parking lot paving built for heavy use at set times of day.

School-day traffic and Benton parking areas

Benton Elementary, Benton Intermediate, Benton Middle and Benton High all serve the town, and the church lots, drop-off lanes and small-business lots nearby take traffic in sharp bursts. Pavement under that kind of use wears in predictable places: the turn in from the road, the lane where vehicles idle and creep forward, and any low spot that holds water after rain.

Where a lot is structurally sound, crack filling, sealcoating and fresh striping can renew it for far less per square foot than new paving, going by the ranges on our cost page. Where the base has failed, we mark the sections to cut out and rebuild, so the new surface has solid support underneath.

Do you work inside Benton and in the subdivisions around it?

Yes. Driveway and parking lot jobs inside Benton town limits and in the surrounding parts of Bossier Parish are both in our area, including developments between Benton and Bossier City. Call (318) 216-6124 to arrange a free visit.

Is resurfacing cheaper than replacing a Benton driveway?

Usually, if the base is solid. Our cost page lists resurfacing over a sound base at $2–5 per square foot, compared with $4–8 for replacing a driveway. Prices on this page are estimates from previous work. We cannot quote an exact price. The actual cost can be lower or higher depending on the job. The person who knows is the professional who will do the work. You get a written quote after we see the property.

My driveway opens onto LA-3. Who has a say over the apron?

The part of the drive inside the highway right-of-way falls under the Louisiana DOTD access connection rules, which apply to driveways on state routes like LA-3. A permit is generally required for work there, and DOTD can set standards for the connection. We will explain what we see on site, but DOTD makes the decision.

Can a church or business lot in Benton be paved in sections?

Often, yes. A larger lot can be split so part of the parking stays open while the rest is worked on, with striping following each section. How it is phased depends on the layout and where the entrances are, which we work out during the visit.
